The damage to our trees, woods and forests from insect pests and organisms such as bacteria and fungi is significant. The rapid increase in movements of goods and people between countries has increased the risk of spreading pests and diseases. They can travel hidden in plants, plant products, packaging, wood, vehicles and holidaymakers’ luggage – even in the soil carried on shoes. This is where the Biosecurity Lite Kit comes in!

You should carry out basic biosecurity actions before entering and leaving each new site you visit, even if they are within the same area. This is because you can never be sure whether a site is free from pests or disease. Sometimes it can take a while for affected trees to display symptoms of infection or infestation. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Make sure you arrive to each new site clean.

In order to practice simple biosecurity measures each day to help limit the spread of tree pests and diseases, it is helpful to have a biosecurity kit in your vehicle as you go about your work.

The new BioSecurity Lite Kit was developed following consultation with the Forestry Commission. It is a scaled down version of the full Biosecurity Kit, intended for use by those working in urban or remote environments etc who need to carry the kit with them most of the time. The kit is packed into a handy drawstring bag containing everything required to fulfil BioSecurity requirements using the approved Cleankill and/or Propellar disinfectants (available separately).
